Light pollution gradients are one of the banes of imaging. Its helps to have good data to begin with. You'll find that even from dark sky sites gradients still exist. A tip with gradient Xterminator, make sure you follow Russ Croman's instructions closely. The normalisation algorithm utilised is remarkably good if you get the selection correct. One method is to start with a color range tool selection, followed up by either selection additions or subtractions using the lasso tool manually. If your selection criteria is not clean, then you blast away faint nebulosity and features. Use sparingly and/or mask the result to blend back in later.
