You'd be surprised how convenient having a dob base is.
It's excellent for storing the OTA on when you take it off the EQ mount. And for imaging the ISS, the alt/az movement is far easier than trying to do it with RA/DEC movements.
My 12" rests in my dob mount when it's not on the EQ. If I had a permanent setup it might be a different story.
