When we visited Ireland a couple of years ago the Birr scope was on the 'must see' list. When we arrived at Birr Castle we found we had missed the starparty by a week. If we had known earlier we would have changed our plans and attended. As it was we spend a marvelous afternoon looking through the museum, photographing the scope from every possible angle and touring the grounds. It looks as though being a Lord is great work if you can get it!

We had a great time in Ireland. It is obviously very different to Oz but both are very pretty in their own ways. Everyone was very friendly, though a few did want to souvenir my Akubra .
