The skill level is so good in AFL you dont even have to catch the ball clean to get a Mark. They will be giving Marks for feeling the wind of the ball as it passes you by next.
No real skill needed to kick a ball into an unguarded goal area, you even give a point for a close miss. How many goals would be scored it AFL had a 8 foot by 24 foot target? NONE.
