Geoff, since KStars is ASCOM compliant, you can run just about all the mounts you'll ever come across, you have the GIMP for image processing and if you want you can download IRAF for image processing (does all the other packages can do), and you can run all your Windows software in WINE or VMWare anyway. So you're not missing out on much
