I have a very similar mount, possibly built a bit later, which is also waiting (very patiently) for a permanent home. Some years ago some teeth in the gearbox broke. The box is metal but the gears are plastic. After some net searching I found a source of the gearbox from an Australian company. I never did buy the replacement and I've forgotten the details. If it is of any use I can pull out the mount and get the details (make, model number) from off the gearbox. I'm at work now but I can do it tonight.
