Yes. The ST7e seems nice for these objects. I have a 300D for the larger targets but have not used it on the 12" yet. I like the ease of using the ST.

I look through books at bookshops, looking beyond the poster pic's. If I find something unusual I'll write its info down.
Other places on the net eg Arp Cat., NED etc. I tend to read the comments in catalogues, look for anything unusual. Many turn out to be faint fuzzies but every now and then a suprise turns up.
