Fair enough. Never tried it myself, but maybe another mask layer either BW but tinted to turn the green tinge to brown (I do colour splashes with sepia background this way), or simply colour balance out the green in that layer...

Ah... you need a graphics tablet! I bought a Wacom one after my first foray into colour splashes.
