To stop dark adapted eyesight from being ruined when opening your car door or boot,go to super cheap auto and buy a set of 4 interior car lights at a cost of about$6.50 and then colour a couple of them red with a permanent marker.It gives you the light you need while keeping everyone else off your back. I tried it last night and I worked fine.
