Hi SFlySnuka,
I have always simply used the ETX on a small wooden coffee table (has 3 rubber feet on the flat round base for this purpose). I once tested with a Meade tripod, but found that sitting at a small coffee table was more stable & comfortable than bending over a tripod.
A former work colleague purchased his ETX-90 new with the Meade tripod, but also stated that he never uses his tripod.
