I'm sorry Mike, usually I respect you're decisions, but this one is not only "pretty sad" but has no justification whatsoever, even hiding behind some pre-ordained decision of yours notwithstanding!
Taking your own criteria exposes the hypochrisy of your stance in this particular situation, particularly given your extremely selective and autocratic editing, viz. your "clean up":
there is nothing at all serious in the subject matter of this thread, to wit a
"media beat-up" that falsely quotes both individuals and organizations with
a completely absurd proposition!
I look forward to you showing courage as well as character to allow this particular post of mine to stand; also commenting that readers should know that there was nothing offensive or derogatory in my (deleted) posts, and that at least one reader found "hilarious." (that comment too was deleted!)
Being pleased about the growth and participation in this forum is mutually understandable: with such wide popularity comes the understanding/undertaking
that THE APPLICATION OF ANY RULES are NOT THE ARBITRARY PROVINCE of a selected few, whatever their roles may be!
And heaven help anybody or any organization etc that decides a bit of light banter is only appropriate when and where "they" designate it - imagine the impact of this sort of directive ANYWHERE!
Since joining IIS my track record is, I believe, entirely defensible: I do like light banter as well as the introduction of topics/perspectives that any decent individual should have the opportunity to peruse - I would like to think that on many occassions I have gone to great lengths to assist people with their problems by actually taking the time and care to specifically answer their requests; often feeling disappointed that many who profess enormous expertise often seem unwilling to part with it in anything but thro-away three liners that do little to resolve the situations.
With respect, Darryl.
