Remember that line - but Russian's used a pencil - apparently this was significantly dangerous at the time - pencils leave graphite dust which provides a combustible surface catalyst in high oxygen environments. So it inverts the thinking that just maybe NASA really did get this right whilst the Russians lucked in.
