Digital SLRs used for astrophotography?

Sup guys, long time no see etc.

Last year I purchased a 6.1MP Pentax K100DSLR, and I've recently gotten a 55-200mm lens for it, which has awesome zoom capabilities. I've seen images taken of Eta Carina with a 135mm lens with the AP thrown wide open, is this possible from a DSLR? If I do max zoom and put the AP wide open and set it on a low ISO and do a bulb exposure, would that work?

Is light pollution a big problem when capturing images? Or will it just drown it out a little bit?

Furthermore, the dob's been collecting dust, needs to be used again. Is there any way of getting an adaptor to take pictures using the DSLR through the 'scope?

cheers,

Charlie
