Rubbish, I say. I live in the states and several years ago the locals were spouting nonsense about an upcoming planetary alignment. Seems the combined planetary tides were supposed to wash oceans over the continents, cause a pole shift, etc, etc.
The alignment was pretty and made it easy to see all of the visible planets for a while, but aside from that............??
Folks up here are now going bonkers over some non-event that will happen in 2012 thats tied up with the Mayan calendar, a cometary impact by an as yet undiscovered comet, the alignment of the sun with the galactic center, a planned visit by ET, etcetcetc - you name it they've thought of it. There seems to be a great need to educate the public about this kind of nonsense. I've got a friend who is literally growing ulcers over 2012! I do what I can, but reason does not seem to be the approach to use. Maybe we should start anti-rumors?
