But it is irrelevant, because for us it will explode when we see it exploded... and the gamma rays travel at the speed of light.
But there is hope:
Maybe the orbital plane is perpendicular to the line of sight, but who says the rotational axis of the star is not tilted?
So this aim of 1° accuracy they are mentioning in the text does mean a lot.. it could be much more. In whicjh case the beam will not hit us directly.. and even if it does, there is nothing we can do,
So lets continue to enjoy this wonderful hobby, astronomy :-)
