Just to prove that I take photos of more than just bugs, here are some from Cedar Creek (just north of Brisbane).
Shots were taken in dark overcast conditions using a CPL to reduce the light even further and with the lens (17-85 from memory) stopped down to the maximum. The metered shutter times (shooting in AV) vary for each shot, but most were around 8 to 10 seconds.
