Don't worry about it, Andrew, you are not letting down the side. Over the years I've had many interests - some of which became almost obsessions - but I finally grew up a bit. Nowadays I just dabble in my hobbies when I feel like it and don't fret if I miss a clear night or an incredible opening (resident amateur radio types will know what I mean) or couldn't be bothered designing and constructing some simple whiz-bang electronic device.
These days involvement comes in spurts; the day when one becomes home proud and cleans all the windows, fixes up the screen doors, swipes down the cobwebs shrouding the outside lights and gives the rotten things a decent clean; the day one finally drags out the 'scope and re-collimates it; the day one fires up the radio and has a bit of a chat; the day one finally gets around to tidying up one's weather web site.
You all know what it's like.
