Dewy but sensational!!

Hi All,

Sydney has been inundated for the last 2 weeks -- it has really bucketed for much of that time.

8am Sat 09022008 -- solid cloud with showers. Showers stop 10am -- but privately I'd totally completely given up all hope. In truth I had nearly given up 2 days ago on observing Saturday night.

2pm raining for the last 2 hrs utterly hopeless -- resigned to another night in front of the telly (and no Cricket on!).

5pm Sun breaks through a few odd streaks of blue in the sky -- I disregard it as impossible and the sky simply being a tease. I volunteer to cook dinnner as I know I'm going nowhere!

6.30pm Washing up, look out the back window ... mostly clear. Hmmm ...

7pm Totallly clear. Frantic phone calls -- whaddaya reckon??

8.20pm on the road to my "nearly dark" site in the southern highlands, being a realist, I'm expecting the clag to re-appear any second.

10pm All set up. Not a cloud in sight anywhere. Cool though -- about 12 deg C. Sky is simply the best I've seen from that site in more than 4 years -- ZLM about 6.4 (unbelievable!!). Seeing 6-7/10 and improving.

3.00am pack up and head home after a sensational night. Not a single cloud seen all night -- dark and good seeing, but pretty dewy (I'll live with that though). Got home 10 mins ago with eyeballs hanging out on cheeks.

Crazy weather but tonight was a bonus. I simply cannot believe I went tonight let alone no cloud, no fog excellent conditions.

Observations to follow in a few days. Very tired but also very, very contented!

Best,

Les D
