I have had the experience with a mirror I thought I would get rid of the small scratches
.. I was real new then
...so I polished the thing with some stuff and was surprised to find most of the mirror gone
... you could still use it but the along came a new scope so I never got it resilvered. but it surprised me how well it worked really.
