Well, I was at last year's Rainbow Serpent with my 8" Dobbie and the scope was a huge hit! People's reactions after seeing Saturn's rings with their own eyes for the first time ever were well worth the effort! We even caught Comet McNaught on the first couple of nights with 20x60s.

I'll second Mark on not stereotyping people. There are lots of different people at RS. People of all ages, professions, with all sorts of backgrounds. Attendance is in the 1000s and not everyone likes the music. (I for one found it quite torturous at times!) But just about everyone is friendly and respectful of others. The site was awful though, mostly barren with tonnes of dust and/or heavy rain + strong gusty winds constantly.
