Excellent photo of the Wasps Nest. How did you get so close and not get attacked?
What is the plant in the first photo? I've never seen one before, I don't think
.

Thanks jeanette. I just zoomed in as much as I could, and moved very slowly. The plant is actually just a spear of grass seeds.

haha, i second jjj's questions and add one of my own...

what are the technical specs of these photos? (camera, lens, shutter speed, aperture, iso, etc)
josh these are my first photo's posted which were taken with a new olympus E-410 with the standard zuicko 14-42 mm lense.

All my posted photo's so far are with a point and shoot, and i started out playing with existing photo's from that camera because i haven't seen the sky in so long. The funny thing is I'm having a great time, so I looked around and the Oly seemed a good starting pount. Now i just have to learn how to use it properly. Overall I am happy with these two, I have many more but haven't had a chance to play with the composition of them yet. The details of the photo's follow.

Wasp - Oly E-410, ISO-100, 14-42MM @ 42mm, 1/80sec @ f/8. No post processing and is not a crop. Simply added border and resized for here.

Grass seeds - Oly E-410, ISO-200, 14-42MM @ 26MM, 1/50sec @ f/8. This photo is a crop (the original showed the whole grass spear) of original to get the composition that I liked) and some levels, and contrast/brightness adjustment in paint shop pro.

At the moment I am not really trying to get the exact technical side of things down right, I am concentrating on composition and playing with the processing side of things. I didn't do anything to the wasp photo because everything I did looked worse than the original. I didn't state the details when I posted because I posted them from work and I don't have the camera programme on my work computer. Next time i will make sure i have them, for when i post.
