5 years ago most car manufacturers didn't import diesel cars into Australia either because our diesel was "truck grade" so to speak.
The diesel fuel standard has increased quite dramatically over the last few years which is why we now see a large amount of diesel cars being imported into Australia. This is probably why the diesel price has gone up compared to petrol.
