Hi all.
Yep, the best location for 2008 is western China. But if you haven't already booked your hotel rooms ... good luck! I've just returned from Jiayuguan, and it and the other cities in the area are fully booked by large travel companies. There might be some late cancellations, but I doubt it. And don't forget the Olympics start the following week.
2009 is looking messy. Most of the path will be in monsoon. I don't find 100% probability of cloud cover in eastern India very encouraging. I'm hoping to get to Iwo Jima.
For 2012, try to avoid Cairns. Good chance of cloud in the morning. Head inland, or go to the west coast of the Cape.
Looking ahead for AU/NZ:
2028 July 22: NW Aus, through central NT, then NSW to Sydney.
2030 Nov 25: Port Augusta, SA, into southern QLD.
2037 July 13: north of Perth, southern NT, Brisbane, NI NZ
2038 Dec 26: central WA, north of Adelaide, Murray River, Wellington NZ
Looks like a busy ten years to me ...
Steve.
