I was getting "tails" on bright objects and it to be the secondary not centred correctly on the axis of the focuser. Its only the first step in the collimation process and I missed it so its possible you could have too. I solved it by putting some graph paper behind the secondary and using the lines as references to centre the secondary. When that was done the rest was easy.
