The Black Hole in NGC-1097
Hello all,
Here's a shot I did recently which was an attempt to capture some of the detail surrounding the core of the galaxy NGC 1097, thought to be home of a massive black hole.
There are two images attached, the magnified view is a 3x enlargement of the original. According to some internet research I did, what we are looking at is a star-forming ring of gas and matter surrounding a very bright active galactic nucleus. The ring is reported to be 5,500 light years wide and the bright nucleus home to a massive black hole.
This image is a 24-minute exposure (made up of 8 x 3-min. subs) with my modified 300D @ ISO200 autoguided on my G-11 mounted GSO 12" f/5 'scope.
