It's harder to make a flat than a curve.
Photocopiers used to have good sized flats - I've seen some of them used for binocular jobs (the ones where the flat mirror looks at the sky but the binos point down at the mirror) but I was told that modern day photocopiers have got more efficient and the mirrors have got smaller, if they are still there at all.
