Yep - my Meade illuminated reticle eyepiece is rubbish too - same problems as yours - I have to tap mine to get the LED to come on!
My Meade CCD RGB filters aren't much better - hold the rim of the filter and shake - you can hear the glass rattling in the metal rim....
