The signal to noise ratio of a CCD increases linearly with the square root of the exposure time. This means that quadrupling the exposure time doubles the signal to noise ratio. So take the longest effective exposure you can. I don't know why the self guiding won't work as yet Jase ..... it may just be a cabling problem ..... I know the St2000XCM camera is a very capable piece of equipment that's why I bought it to significantly upgrade from my 350D and to be able to auto guide .... I've seen some wonderful images with it taken by other people !
