On a similar note, I have used a visible light solar filter on my 70-200 f/2.8 w/2x tc hand held with some success. It makes for a very quick grab and go check to see if I should set up the scope. Sure, I'm not likely to need solar filters any time soon, but I do like the occasional peek even when nothing is going on.
The same filters fit my 15x70 binos, so either one is good for a quick check of the sun.
