I was actually in Central America a few years ago and visited a number of the locations cited in "Chariots of the Gods" and actually saw many of the objects discussed in the book. I must say the local guides did not have much respect for any of the claims made in the book. My impression when I left was that the original builders of these structures where pretty clever people. To belittle their achievements by saying they are impossible without the benefit of modern technology is abhorrent.
I have always thought that if an ancient civilization could traverse the galaxy, why would they need pictures on the ground to show them which way is north? If they needed to build something to launch rockets to get home, why didn't they need something similar to land? Why would they build all these high tech buildings out of only rocks? Surely someone would have accidently left a bit of technology behind at some time, but they haven't found any 4 thousand year old computers.
