I expect the moment you looked the instinct would be to look away that instant ..in that instant would you be blinded .

I was told by another Amatuer Astronomer (I won't say who coz they didn't say I could quote them, if they want it known they will say), that his friend who is a seasoned Amatuer absent-mindedly looked at the sun thru a pair of Binoculars, and went instantly and permanently blind in both eyes.
So, Alex, I'd say the answer is yes, instantly.
