I would think it was a supplied current issue.

Can you test your hardware inside on a PC and confirm it all works?

Is your Laptop being run off a mains adapter - or merely battery power when you try this?

The DSI is a current hungry monster. Maybe the other thing you can try if your PC has a serial port is plugging in an old fashioned serial mouse or PS/2 mouse and seeing if this setup is stable.

Alternatively connect the PC to a mains powered hub and the DSI to said Hub - see if that helps.
