Shawn - why not have a big canvas bag with a big zip down the front made up that sits loosely right over the whole scope (and may even be suspended from overhead). Then maybe one of those small and portable room air conditioners (the ones with the exhaust pipe that goes out the window) could be somehow rigged to direct air into the canvas bag over the scope. These small guys are pretty cheap to run in comparison to the 3.5 -hp split system and could be stored out of the way when not in use. A system of snap-ons screwed to the front of the unit could accept another canvas "air gathering" device which could then be connected via a flexible hose to the input hole of the scope bag.

i can see it in my head and it would take me an afternoon to knock up I reckon.

This way you'd only be cooling a comparatively small space - meaning that you could keep the unit turned right down to save cost.

I dunno - maybe an idea...
