Hi all,
As Rob says, it becomes part of the way of life.
I lived in the eastern "Bay Of Plenty" in the "60's", it was unusual to go more than 2 days without a tremor or two!
Sunday mass would result in the dads sitting in the outer seats to catch the statues if the fell. Quite an experience, I tell you.
Being on the edge of the Pacific plate does not help, as the Aussie plate is trying to smash into us.

I also follow events around the "Rim of Fire"
As Rob says, there are pressure releases to equalize the plates, where there is a quake or eruption, there will be another in less than a week normally.
