Observing sites "close" to Melbourne ?

As I live in the inner east, observing from home is basicaly limited to the moon and some planetary viewing, the light pollution from the streets makes sure of that.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to a location that is
  • within an hours drive of the city
  • relatively dark, I know it wont be true dark skies
  • remote enough to avoid the passing casual mugger
I thought of the car park on top of Mt Dandenong but they lock the gates there since it was privatised from Parks Victoria.

Thanks
