Thanks for sharing this with us Mick.
I hope some good comes from your post.
Everyone needs reminding that drinking and driving is a potential and regular killer....and yet we are all more worried about terror and global warming... something is really out of wack. What is causing actual deaths on a regular basis.. the numbers record the real danger.
It is unfortunate that our society is not more focused on this problem.
We can fit cd players and all sorts of goodies to our cars one wonders why the ignition is not hot wired to a breath tester which will imobilise a vehicle if booze is detected therein.. simple effective and cheap technology.
If the authorities were serious there would be breath testers outside each and every pub and club... but all we get are some comical adds showing a drunk with half his sckull removed... which reinforces the general concept...that most nights it will be alright.
We dont want to upset the booze industry do we ...
When I think of the deaths in this region over the past couple of years most have been drink related yet everyone thinks it only happens to someone else.
I hope your Son recovers but is left with an appreciation of how very very lucky he was to survive the accident.
I was looking at the car races and see a certain burbon manufacturer advertising on one of the cars and could not help but think ..how many deaths have occured as a result of this companies product... one , two ???or hundreds...
All readily condem other drugs as if booze is ok.. I would expect more folk die from booze than die from OD's... more home wrecked from booze than anything else I bet.
Our society is happy to ban smoking all over on the basis that it produces a long lingering death yet drinking thats OK .. to me that seems so out of touch with the reality of booze and death.
Also the promotion of motor cars as toys is so ridiculous, the sale of vehicles that are capable of speeds three fold and more the general speed limit again is tradgically stupid ...
I wonder how they do it on planets more advanced than ours.
