Yeah David - it's the ED. Great lens for what I normally use it - long-distance portraiture. Out of the dozen lenses I've now collected, the only one that I don't have to treat completely manually is the kit 18-55 ED that came with the D40.
I'll give it a go for some birdie num nums using shutter priority...
