I think the real message might be to live each moment of each day of our lives with as much wisdom and balance as we are able to muster.
At times of great tragedy, loss of loved ones, illness, etc. the more mundane and petty aspects of our daily lives, which consume a disproportionate measure of our thoughts and energies, tend to get pushed aside as the more important issues come into sharper focus.
I once had a close call rock climbing and the experience recalibrated my whole life. Mostly, I am content to wake up each day, in a free country, draw breath, drink clean water, have access to nourishing food, have a loving wife and a few close friends, live in a democracy and of course, enjoy the camaraderie found right here on IceIn Space, such that if the whole shebang ends in 2012, I probably will not feel that I have terribly missed out on anything.
Cheers
Dennis
