I am30 klms out of town that has only 15 street lights and less houses... the Milky way can be seen in detail and the galactic center passes over head which I think is neat.

It sounds pretty good.I think you would like the German sky, too.Well, I just have to go out of home.Than, I stand on a untraveled street. There I set up my equipment. I know, asphalt doesn't be the ideal background.
Mostly I have a 6,5mag sky.And I can sometimes catch the milky way very clear.Besides there are less lights and my home town is far away.So, I am very pleased with my location.
But once I want to see the LMC as well the SMC.
