Hi Liz, the base bolt that came with my 10" GSO dob was slightly too short so I replaced it with another bolt and two nuts, one nut acting as a lock nut. With the GSO bolt you have to tighten it far enough so that the nyloc nut is not going to work loose - if its too tight at that point, replace it.
