Hi All,

Yes, there will be some incredible astro events in 2012.

Transit of Venus in June.

Total Solar Eclipse in November (far Nrth QLD).

At least they've done the right thing and scheduled the apocolypse to take place afterward. I'd be pretty cranky otherwise. I'll plan for a quiet Christmas though. Have to remember not to waste money buying presents for the wife and daughter that year.

On a more serious note, it is BUNK pure and simple. The Milky Way core - Sun - Earth alignment on Dec 21st 2007, 2008, 2009 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 is all essentially identical. Precession moves the Sun's position of course, but over the course of just a few years it's 2/3rds of 5/8ths of damn all.

A "photon belt" is a made-up name that is intended to frighten the life out of stupid people. Since when has a photon of visible light ever hurt anyone. Good grief, we use telescopes to collect them and funnel them into our eyes don't we?

Yes Gamma, X-Rays and UV can be harmful. So can looking at the Sun through an unfiltered telescope but a photon belt??

Phooey !!
