An 8" dobsonian is a great scope. When EQ mounted it will be perfect for webcam imaging of the planets and moon.

Oh yes.I am very happy with my 8 inch.In the past I have tracked by hand.It is hard, but I love Astro Imaging.So I think you have to be a little bit crazy for our hobby.

The southern sky is magnificent.

Our southern skies are one of the things that keeps bringing northern astronomers south and staying here. (That and the wonderfully friendly people http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/..../winking70.gif ) The skies are pretty awesome with most of the country not affected by light polution.

Here in the mountains we have mag 6 skies, all we need is the cloud to go away for a while but we need the rain http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/....es/happy19.gif

Well, sometimes I envy you.For example if the comet McNaught came down to the southern hemisphere.At the time when he was visible from Germany he didn't be such bright and huge as at the time he came down.
His long trail was fantastic.
