Thanks, doug, for your detailed reply. I did not hold out much hope but I cannot help myself when i see things on special!
I also looked up some comments on the Celestron mentioned below and decided it would not be the way to go.
About one day after I passed on your EQ3-type mount I had a Homer Simpson moment (D'oh!). I should have just bought that and worked with my D80 for a while.
