Rising in the East above the early morning mist is the long-neglected constellation of Vacca Major:

It contains many objects of interest to the keen observer: the brilliant star Vingius whose faint companion "The Calf" is only visible in a wobbletronic refractor; the marvellous Udderly Wonderful Cluster, discovered by the renowned astronomer Ving and is number 105 in his catalogue; the magnificent binary Cowabunga Posterior (Gamma Vaccae Majoris) whose stunning colour contrast of pink and purple (although some describe them as aubergine and duck-egg blue, but to me they always appear as cinnamon and moss-green) can only be appreciated with adaptive optics; the neglected variables Reg and Moomoomamma, both fading fast as we speak... so much to see and so little time!
