TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for Dangerous Surf and Damaging Winds
For people in the Southeast Coast District and Fraser Island and the eastern
Darling Downs and Granite Belt District.
Issued at 6:00 am on Tuesday 21 August 2007

Synoptic Situation: A deep trough lies off the southern coast of Queensland
through into northeastern New South Wales. A dominant low pressure system is
expected to develop in the trough east of the Gold Coast this morning. A strong
pressure gradient will develop between this system and a firm ridge along the
New South Wales coast.

Large seas are developing on the Gold Coast, and are expected to develop north
to the Sunshine Coast and Fraser Island by late today. Damaging wind gusts to
90km/h are expected to develop in exposed coastal areas of the Gold Coast this
morning and should spread north towards Fraser Island by late in the day.

Damaging wind gusts to 90 km/h may also develop over inland parts of the
Southeast Coast and eastern parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt District
during the morning, mainly about elevated terrain.
The State Emergency Service advises that people in the affected area should:

- Stay clear of the water in the open ocean as large waves and rip currents
develop
- Secure loose outdoor items
- beware of fallen trees and powerlines
