Bingo. You need a 4 pin cable that goes into the hand controller via a DB9 socket I believe (like to upgrade the firmware) and the other end of this wire goes into your PC's serial port.
The parts to do this cost under $20, would you like me to make you what you need and you simply cover costs and postage (I have all the expensive crimping tools and know the pin-out layouts for both ends of the connectors. Tell me the lenght cable you need and confirm your PC has a 9 pin serial port and I could make it for you tomorrow - you should have it by Friday.
I have made two and both worked fine - I just read the pin out requirements and made my own gear.
