Thanks everyone for their comments. There was a window to come out a week earlier, and we grabbed it. Our Sep/Oct issue is nearly complete and will be in the hands of subscribers in about 5 weeks.
I would like to add to Matt's remark. Australian Sky & Telescope publishes a wide variety of local contributions every 2 months, 6 times a year.
In fact, looking at the last 12 months, a survey of the major magazines reveals that more Australian writers have had features, columns, and reports published in Australian Sky & Telescope than in any other astronomy magazine worldwide.
I'm a die-hard amateur myself. I did the morning vigil in seeking Halley. I observed my first Mars opposition from atop a garage roof (...there's a story there about "seeing"!). I truly enjoy publishing a magazine written by astronomers for astronomers...ie. for you.
