One thing I like about the Australian bush is the lack of large pointy-toothed beasts - as long as you don't step on a snake you're fine.

I've spent a little time camping in Canadian and Californian forests and it can be hard to fall asleep when you're wondering what that sound was. We stopped to watch a bear raiding a roadside bin one time thinking it was a great observing opportunity; the bear wandered over to the car, stood up beside the drivers door (it was a tall vehicle) and looked directly through the window at me - maybe 2 feet away from my head - then wandered off. We won't be stopping to observe any more bears.

Living in Australia it's easy to be blase regarding foriegn wildlife, until you get a bit too close. I am confident that I won't be eaten in the Australian bush.
