LRGB Imaging

I'm wondering if someone would be kind enough to explain the basics of LRGB imaging.

Up until now I've done all my imaging with the ToUcam. I want to start making use of the DMK, but I'm having a bit of trouble understanding how it all works - particularly the L channel.

I'm a planetary imager. At the moment my attention is turned to Jupiter.

Now, I understand that I have to capture and process approximately the same number of Red, Green and Blue frames.

Given the rotational speed of Jupiter, I reckon I can capture for about 30-35 seconds in each channel and allow for 10-15 seconds for changing filters and slight refocus.

That's pretty much my 2 minute window.

So where do I find time for a Luminence capture?

3x30secs=90, + 2x15secs= 120 seconds total. That's 2 minutes.

I see some guys refering to L channels of up to 1 minute.

How can this be?
