Mick, the artifacts causing the wierd stars are from Blooming. Overloading of the pixels, which means I have pushed the Toucam beyong it's theoretical limit.
If I take shorter exposures it isn't as bad, but at the sacrifice of detail in Nebs, Galaxies etc. I have tried imaging and stacking lots of shorter images but no detail is visible. Just cleaner stars.
I'm afraid I have reached (and gone beyond) the limit of what the Toucam can capture as usable data. The longest exposure I have been able to achieve is 320 seconds before the whole screen goes white and the stars are large black blobs!
Looks like it's time for me to step up to something else.
The poor Toucam is about to have Cardiac Arrest if I push it any further!
